Dermalogica Ion Active Power Treatment

Dermalogica Facial

FACIAL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The 45-minute treatment is more of a therapeutic facial, minus the extraction
  • Use of Ion Active concentrates to target specific skin concerns
  • Finally, seal it with either an Endothermoid (cooling) or Exothermoid (heating) gelloid

My therapist, Danelle guided me to the treatment room where I was asked to settle in and prepare for the session. She started off with a double cleanse. And once the skin was prepped up, she looked through a magnifying glass and identified my major skin concerns. Danelle then suggested a combination of Hyaluronic Acid Ion active (to address the dehydration/sensitivity on the outer cheeks) and Niacinamide (to target the moderate skin congestion and clogged pores).

The available Ion Active concentrates include:

  • Retinol – to firm and reduce visible signs of skin aging
  • Niacinamide – to control and prevent adult acne breakouts
  • Hyaluronic Acid – to relieve dehydrated and/or sensitive skin
  • Oligopeptide – to brighten hyperpigmentation for even skin tone

After Danelle exfoliated and swept in a layer of the Ion Active gel all over my face, she switched on the hand-held ultrasound device and the magic began! A high-pitched buzz filled the room and since it was not my first experience with galvanic current treatment, I knew exactly what to expect. “You’ll get accustomed to the sound”, she reassured me as she moved the tool gently in upward direction from my chin to the forehead. This went on for about 10 minutes.

The treatment was then followed up with an endothermic (cooling) gelloid mask as a final step to seal in the ion active concentrates. The choice of cooling or heating gelloid depends entirely on your skin. The Endothermic gelloid contains aloe vera, spirulina, hyaluronic acid, white tea, ferulic acid, cucruminoids, niacinamide, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil. It helps to calm and soothe irritated/sensitive skin. While the Exothermic gelloid targets mature, aging and dry skin.

Once the mask was applied, the Blue LED was switched on and I was allowed to retreat into blissful relaxation as the product worked its magic on my skin. Following the removal of the gelloid mask, Danelle gave in the final touches: ultra calm mist, moisturizer, eye cream and SPF.

POST-TREATMENT CARE

My skin felt hydrated, soft and deeply cleansed. There was a little bit of redness around the cheeks, which I believe was expected because of the concentrated 4% Niacinamide. The next day, my skin felt much more smoother and revitalized. My face was less oily through the week and I experienced fewer post-facial breakouts than usual. And now, I’m back to using the products recommended by my therapist including the Active Moist and Skin Hydrating Booster before I head in for my next appointment.
