As promised, today I’m going to share with you my thoughts on Guerlain’s all-new L’Essentiel foundation. Coming from a brand with an exceptional track-record of delivering products with the highest quality ingredients, and an unrivaled luxury skincare line; their new releases are one of things I always look forward to! You can read more about their 190th anniversary beauty releases here.
Their Lingerie de Peau foundation was one of my all-time favourites, it was just amazing! The color stayed put all day, and it looked both natural and dewy. I remember, feeling extremely disappointed when they discontinued Parure Extreme. So naturally, when Guerlain announced the launch of L’Essentiel foundation this month, I knew I had to give it a try!
Firstly, the packaging truly stands out. The new disruptive bottle look is distinctive, with its striking “pick me up and buy me” design. The sleek bottle is luxurious yet still quite small and handbag friendly. It also comes with a brush that you can buy separately. I can cleanly dispense just the right amount. I use two full pumps to cover my face and neck.
The L’Essentiel Natural Glow foundation claims to even out your skin tone with a natural, glowy finish that lasts up-to 16 hours. It comes in a range of 30 shades (warm, neutral and cool skin tones are covered), and boasts SPF20. This multi-perfecting foundation is made with 97% naturally-derived ingredients, which includes:
- Yacon Juice: Yacon root is a natural source of antioxidants and prebiotics. Reports from in-vitro studies have demonstrated its potential to promote radiance and support natural skin health.
- White Cocoa Beans improves skin hydration and helps strengthen the skin barrier.
- Duo of Tara and Red Algae Extracts – Early in-vitro studies have shown the two ingredients when used together, work in synergy to soften and soothe the skin and allow the skin to breathe. It also protects the skin from the effects of pollution
Our experience with Guerlain L’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation
Of all the options, the colour that matched my skin tone the closest was 01C. Overall, my experience with the foundation has been great so far. It’s been only a month that I’ve been using it, and it has already secured a place in my current rotation of products. I love how it feels and looks on the first application; it has a gorgeous silky texture and goes on the skin effortlessly. I also liked it because it didn’t irritate my extremely sensitive skin.
I applied this liquid foundation both with a primer and without primer. Without primer, it accentuated my pores especially around my cheeks, but on top of the primer, it performed much better and stayed put for about 6-7 hours, with some minor touch ups during the day.
Again, the foundation does not feel heavy on the skin, and it helps create a smooth unified base. With a light to medium coverage, the formula is buildable – so you can layer it to give your skin a stronger finish without losing on the luminosity. The color did not oxidize at all, didn’t move or transfer at all. But if you’re looking for a high coverage, you might want to look elsewhere.
The foundation is lightly scented with woody/musky notes. It opens with a sweet almond note in the opening, the heart contains white tea notes and sandalwood in the base.
It’s AED 263 for a 30ml bottle and available now on all Guerlain counters and online here if you want to try it out!
