Goutal Paris, originally founded by Annick Goutal in 1981 is one of the most popular fragrance brands in the world of niche perfumery. As Annick liked to point out, “luxury is in the details.” One look at the luxurious boutique and the familiar sight of esthetically pleasing bottles decorated in elegant pendants, to the masterful blend of it’s best sellers, the brand has convincingly marked its presence in Dubai’s high-end niche fragrance market.
Now in 2018, Goutal begins a new chapter in it’s history with a revamped brand identity to cater to a dynamic audience with an increasing preference for unique scents.
Yesterday, we saw the launch of Goutal Paris’ new fragrance, Rose Pompon in the newly opened Goutal Paris boutique at Perfumery and Co, Dubai Mall and I was lucky enough to grab an interview with David Dorlencourt, the brand’s international training director. I am ever so grateful to the lovely Doaa Tahboub for facilitating this meeting.
During the interview, David talked about Annick Goutal’s biggest aesthetic makeover. With new fragrances in the pipeline, the brand has modernized the historical codes associated with the fragrance house and re-designed the packaging for the entire collection.
So what has changed? Well, to begin with, the brand Annick Goutal will be called Goutal Paris and with this change, it proposes a new visual identity. The new collection features fragrances for women, displayed in the brand’s vintage-inspired flacon with an embossed elliptical gold cap. The unisex and masculine scents however, have a more angular and square design. Despite having undergone a slight revamp and some of the scents being discontinued, the formula of the top selling fragrances in the collection remains the same.
Also, the ranges will be color-coded for a more unified and distinctive appeal, again, as David reassures, all accomplished while preserving the aromatic impression of a signature Goutal fragrance.
Rose Pompon EDP

Goutal’s latest launch is the eau de parfum rendition of its cult rose scent, Rose Pompon. It’s a glitzed-up version of the classic, so with the first spritz I find myself immersed in a garden of luscious red roses unfolding in the morning dew. The fragrance is symphonic in its progression as it dances on a sensuous base of patchouli and woody cedar.
It strikes the perfect balance between sharp and smooth, the unpretentiously sweet floral notes work in harmony with the delicious tart-fruity notes, with none overshadowing the other. The eau de parfum version of the fragrance has a more distinct powdery smell to it, as opposed to the EDT format, which was more brighter and floral.
Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Blackcurrant, Raspberry
Heart Notes: Bulgarian Rose essence, Taïf Rose, Peony
Base Notes: Cedar, Patchouli, White Musks
Rose Pompon EDP was envisioned with a confident woman in mind. Someone who is bold enough to make a statement, but classic and timeless in a way that is unique like the scent itself. If you love the smell of a fresh roses, then you must try this one.
